Tips and tricks on how to make a booking on VRBO- best practices
As you probably know by now, I am an avid Airbnb and VRBO traveler and although sometimes I love to stay in nice hotels, living in a beautiful home is more suitable for how I love to travel.
I recently switched from Airbnb to VRBO because Airbnb abruptly stopped our affiliation program after taking advantage of the huge bloggers’ reach to promote their own interests. I didn’t find this ethical, so from now on, I will start booking through VRBO.
I understand if you will continue to use the Airbnb platform, though, as I reckon that’s very practical. The tips below can be applied to any platform as they are very general ones.
After many bookings made on different platforms and homes rented, I have a few tips I want to share with you. Some may be obvious to some of you, but not so much for those who are not familiar with these kinds of platforms. I hope it helps, but I will write a more in-depth post.
- Make sure you know what you are booking. Not all homeowners are very familiar with the interface, and it can happen to find contradicting information, especially on the kind of accommodation. For example, is the entire home vs. a room? Or is the bathroom en-suite? In doubt, always contact the host before booking.
- Read the reviews from the previous guests.
- Check the total price and the breakdown, because the price advertised it’s not accurate. Airbnb would add their commission and taxes on the room fare based on the owner’s decision.
- Consider booking for seven days or one month, so you will probably get special discounts.
- Read all the details of the listing.
- Read the cancellation policy.
- In doubt, always contact the host before booking.
