Cabo in October, in short

October is the month I would pick if I could only go once. The sea is still 83°F from the summer, the days sit at 90°F, the rain has stopped, and the winter prices have not arrived.

Hotels across Los Cabos average around $456 a night in October at 70% occupancy, against $499 and 83% in the depths of high season. You get most of the winter weather for meaningfully less money and with far fewer people around you.

What you give up: the whales are not here yet. The season is regulated and opens on 15 December, so no operator can legally take you out before that. And the first two weeks can still carry a storm.

Traveling to Cabo in October: An Overview

Cabo San Lucas is a great place to visit year-round, and October is no exception. However, you should know the weather, upcoming events, and local attractions when planning a visit.

In this post, I’ll tell you all about Cabo San Lucas weather in October, along with a couple of events and some things that you can enjoy during your visit. But first, let me tell you a bit about Cabo itself.

Cabo San Lucas is a beautiful resort town located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.

It is renowned for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear water, and lush landscape. There are also many restaurants and bars located throughout Cabo San Lucas that are perfect for relaxing and taking in incredible views.

That being said, the year-round mild climate of Cabo makes it a hot spot for the ultimate beach vacation, but is October a good time to visit it? Let’s dive into our main topic for this post and find out!

The temperature in Cabo San Lucas in October

The hot, muggy weather of Los Cabos starts to improve as early fall approaches.

In October, the average high slips from 91°F in September to 90°F, and nights drop more noticeably, from 76°F to 72°F. The daily average low also decreases by 3°F, to 70°F.

Average relative humidity also drops sharply in October, with the chance of a muggy day falling to 49% from 92% the previous month.

However, the temperature and humidity are still not very low, so the weather may still feel a little balmy during the month.

Precipitation in Cabo San Lucas in October

Rain showers are rare during October, with only a couple of rainy days at the beginning of the month and almost no rainy days as the month goes on.

October gets under an inch of rain, against about 5 inches in September. That is the single biggest month-to-month change in the Cabo calendar, and it is why October feels like a different destination from the month before it.

The Pacific hurricane season officially runs to 30 November, so October is not technically clear. In practice the risk drops sharply after the first half of the month, and by late October the chance of a storm affecting your trip is small.

The sun, on the other hand, can still be intense during the late afternoon, so it’s a good idea to bring sunscreen to protect your skin.

Sunshine in Cabo San Lucas in October

With the rainy season coming to an end, the cloud cover in Los Cabos also decreases rapidly.

The early days of October are usually cloudy, but the latter half of the month has clear skies and lots of hours of sunshine.

The average length of the day during this month is around 11 h and 35 minutes.

Plus, this is also when the visibility is the highest, and the whale sharks start showing up! Overall, October is the best time for snorkeling, diving, and whale-watching in Cabo.

Is there sargassum in Cabo in October?

No, and there never has been, in any month.

The seaweed that buries Mexican beaches every summer comes from the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt, and it only reaches the Caribbean and Gulf coasts. Cabo faces the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, entirely outside that system. The University of South Florida’s sargassum monitoring program does not even cover the Pacific side, because the phenomenon does not happen there, and Mexico’s federal cleanup operations run only in Quintana Roo.

So while Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are clearing tonnes of it every morning through the summer and into October, Cabo’s beaches are clear. If a clean beach is the point of your trip, that is a real reason to come here instead.

Wind speed in Cabo San Lucas in October

The average hourly wind speed in Cabo San Lucas is quite constant during October, from 0.2 to 8.0 miles per hour throughout the month

To have a better idea, you should know that the end of May is the windiest month of the year, with a daily average wind speed of about 10.4 miles per hour, while August 7th is the calmest day of the year, with a daily average wind speed of 7.9 miles per hour.

So basically, drone flyer, you are safe to fly all year round 🙂

Events in Cabo in October

October is the biggest month of the year in Cabo for sportfishing and your post lists one tournament. There are three, and all the 2026 dates are confirmed.

Fiesta de Cabo San Lucas, 14 to 18 October

The town’s patron saint festival, five days centred on Plaza Cota Collins near the Delegación, with the main day on 18 October.

A religious procession departs by boat from the bay towards the Arch, plus a festival queen pageant, carnival rides, food stalls and live music every night. It is the most genuinely local thing that happens in Cabo all year and most visitors have no idea it is on.

Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Tournament, 19 to 24 October

Often called the richest sportfishing tournament in the world. Registration and the captains’ meeting are on 20 October, fishing runs 21 to 23 October with a 7am shotgun start each day, and the awards are on the evening of 24 October.

The 2025 purse was over 7.4 million dollars across 177 teams. Entry starts at 5,000 dollars a team and only Black or Blue Marlin over 300 lb qualify.

You do not need to enter to enjoy it. The marina is packed, the afternoon weigh-ins draw crowds, and the town has an atmosphere it has at no other point in the year. If you want to be here for it, book months ahead. Hotels fill and every charter boat is gone.

Two more tournaments in the same month

The Los Cabos Billfish Tournament runs 7 to 11 October and Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore runs 12 to 17 October, with a lower 1,500 dollar entry.

Between the three events, almost the whole month is booked around the marina. Worth knowing if you are trying to find a quiet hotel.

Día de la Raza, 12 October

A national holiday. Expect a domestic travel bump around it.

Day of the Dead starts appearing

In the last week of October, the altars and marigolds go up: hotel lobbies, the San José del Cabo art district, the public plazas. Day of the Dead itself is 1 and 2 November, but if you are here at the end of October you will see the build-up, which is often more interesting than the day itself.

What Cabo costs in October

October sits between the two price worlds, which is most of its appeal.

The destination-wide average room rate is around $456 a night with 70% occupancy, against $499 and 83% at peak, and $352 in August. In practice, that means a mid-range hotel in Cabo San Lucas at roughly $130 to $200, a luxury or all-inclusive resort at $400 to $600, and hostel dorms at $13 to $24.

Activities, which do not change much by season:

  • Snorkeling trip to Chileno or Santa María: $52 to $90 per person on a group tour, or nothing at all if you drive there yourself and bring a mask. Both beaches are free to enter by land.
  • Water taxi to the Arch and Lover’s Beach: the fair price is $20 per person plus a $5 marina fee. They will open at $40 to $60 and come down, so negotiate before you get on the boat. (Access is occasionally restricted by the authorities; check locally on the day.)
  • Organized Arch tour with hotel pickup: $48 adult, $36 child.
  • Half-day panga fishing charter: $300 to $600 for the boat. A cruiser is $800 to $1,500. Prices rise around the October tournaments and availability disappears.
  • Airport transfer from SJD: $16 to $25 per person on a shared shuttle, $99 to $220 for a private vehicle. For two or more people, the private option often works out cheaper per head as well as faster.

Food: street tacos $3 to $5 each, a casual lunch $10 to $15, dinner for two at a good restaurant around $50. Cabo restaurant prices rose sharply in 2026, with mid-range mains moving from $30 to $40 up to $50 to $65.

The tourist tax you pay before you arrive

Baja California Sur charges every international visitor a state tourist tax, and Los Cabos is in Baja California Sur.

As of 1 January 2026, it is 488 pesos, around 27 dollars, per person over the age of 12, for any stay longer than 24 hours. You pay it online at embraceit.bcs.gob.mx before you travel or on arrival and you get a QR certificate. It is not collected at the airport, so if anybody at SJD asks you for it in cash, that is not how it works.

Two other charges land on the same trip. The federal non-resident tax rose to 53 dollars in January 2026, usually buried in your airfare. And hotel bills carry lodging tax, an environmental sanitation charge of about 4 dollars a night, and 16% IVA, which together can add close to 30% to the rate you were quoted.

Budget roughly 80 dollars a person in taxes and fees before you have paid for anything.

Pros of Visiting Cabo San Lucas in October

✅ October is the month after the rainy season and before the winter months, so it’s perfect to avoid both rainy days and heavy crowds without compromising on the good weather or activities.

✅ Since the month of October is before the high season, you can still find great deals on flights, rooms, and tours.

What’s more, the weather is warm but pleasant, so you’ll have just as much fun as in the high season but with fewer crowds.

✅ You will find great deals on hotels and flights since this is the shoulder season

✅ Sargassum seaweed season is generally between May and October in Mexico, but you won’t have to worry about it in Cabo. The beaches here are not only free of sargassum but also some of the cleanest in the country, making them perfect for a beach vacation.

Cons of Visiting Cabo San Lucas in October

👎 One downside of October is that the sea turtle nesting season is coming to an end. This means fewer turtles will hatch and crawl into the ocean.

👎 Another potential downside is the increasing crowds as fishing tournaments arrive. These tournaments mean bigger crowds than in previous months.

👎 The early fall months are when the prices start rising, before reaching their highest in the winter months, so you won’t find things to be as cheap as the low season during October. But you can still find plenty of good deals and lots of extra perks for the price.

Most of the places in Cabo will accept cards, but there is always a chance that the place you just visited doesn’t. Carry some pesos on you to pay for expenses whenever you go out.

✔️ Keep your belongings locked away in the hotel room

Cabo is a safe tourist destination, but petty theft is never an impossibility here just like anywhere else in the world.

No need to worry, though. Your hotel room will most likely have a safety deposit box that you can use to keep your belongings safe.

✔️ Don’t leave your food and drinks unattended in public

Another good safety measure is to keep your food and drinks in sight whenever you’re dining out. This also applies to the valuables you bring along.
