Is August a Good Time to Visit Mexico?

Many people think of August as a bad time to visit Mexico, and it’s generally true when you look at the weather. But it still comes down to personal preference. In fact, if you love underwater adventures August is perfect to swim with the whale sharks in Cancun or from Bahia de Los Angeles in Baja California.

Althoguh it’s generally quite rainy throughout the country, the weather isn’t the same in all of its regions during August. Many places still have mildly cool temperatures, and the rain showers tend to be short, leaving room for a warm sunshine.

Another positive factor about traveling in August is also that rates on hotels, flights, as well as attractions, and restaurants are their lowest. And since August isn’t a very popular time for tourism in Mexico, you will find fewer crowds here.

Instead, you will get to meet local families vacationing in its popular destinations. This is also when many parts of the country have regional events and festivals ongoing, which makes visiting here worth it as well.

Insider tip: Check the weather forecasts, but don’t completely trust them. Weather can also change frequently during the day.

🎒 Sunscreen: Sunscreen is also a must in August no matter where you are in Mexico. So bring lots of eco-friendly sunscreen along.

🎒 Something for the rain: August is in the smack middle of the Mexican rainy season, so a waterproof jacket, raincoat, or umbrella is also good to bring with you.

🎒 Your swimming gear: Summers are perfect for watersports and lots of beach time. That means your swimsuit, beach towel, and flip-flops are something you can’t forget to pack!

🎒 Comfy shoes: Exploring the many incredible parts of Mexico means walking and sometimes hiking as well. You will need a pair of comfortable walking shoes.

🎒 Insulated water bottle: Avoiding dehydration in the hot, humid weather of August is very important. You should bring a reusable water bottle to keep yourself hydrated at all times.

🎒 Insect-repellent: A good repellent for the summer bugs comes in very handy in Mexico, especially in certain parts where mosquitos and other insects are more rife.

🎒 Your travel documents: This one goes without saying, but don’t forget all your travel documents. Even when you’re traveling within Mexico, there are sometimes checks on roads by immigration officers who ask to see your documents.

What Month is Best in Mexico?

That depends on your personal preferences. For most, the dry season months of December through April are considered the best to visit Mexico.

But there are also shoulder season months if you prefer decent weather on top of slightly lower prices compared to the dry season.

And the low season is when the prices are their lowest and there are almost no crowds around. But it’s also when the rainy and hurricane seasons occur in Mexico.

Is it Better To Go To Mexico in August or September?

Both of these months can be good for visiting Mexico. In most places, September is when the temperatures start to cool down as the dry season comes closer.

But the overall better choice for you will depend on your preferences.

Is Mexico Very Hot in August?

The weather ranges from pleasantly warm to muggy and hot in different regions of Mexico in August. Humidity is higher in coastal areas along with temperatures, so it does feel hot during the daytime.

But evenings are cooler and there are also quick, intense rain showers that cool down the days during the rainy season – and August is part of it as well, so there’s that.
